Summary Description Of Classification
This paraeducator performs a variety of tasks that promote student learning and well-being to support students who are diploma bound. The focus is on facilitating the mastery of grade-level or above curriculum. Tasks include supporting students in general education classes and pulling them out for individualized or small group reinforcement. Additional responsibilities include classroom management and related clerical tasks.
Physical Demands
Frequent bending, walking, and lifting of objects/equipment up to 50 pounds may be required.
Special Requirements
- Able to accommodate flexible scheduling and change of location as needed.
- Continues planned instructional activities during teacher's temporary absence from the classroom.

This school is a Title I school. Eligibility requires uploading an unofficial university transcript with 48+ credits, an official transcript from an outside US institution with evaluation, or a ParaPro Assessment result with a passing score.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Knowledge of child development, instructional strategies, and policies of Montgomery County Public Schools.
- Ability to assist with implementation of the instructional program and monitor student behavior.
- Patience and effective communication with children, young adults, and staff members.
- Effective reading, writing, and speaking in English.
- Supporting students with special needs.
- Knowledge of standard computer hardware and software such as Google Workspace, MS Office, and web-based instructional tools.
- Knowledge of and ability to quickly learn the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
Education, Training, And Experience
- Associate’s degree, required. Bachelor’s degree preferred, with a minimum of nine credit-hours related to education fields such as behavior management, instructional strategies.
- One year of experience working with students in structured educational (or academic) situations preferred. Alternatively, two to four years of experience in a structured setting such as a daycare, pre-school, etc.
- Two years of experience in a structured setting such as a daycare, pre-school, adult day program, after-school program, extended day, or school/non-school based departments, etc.
- Successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment with a qualifying score of 455 or higher is required.
