Under supervision of a manager, supervisor, or field manager, performs routine duties involved in the production and serving of food, and in cleaning kitchen facilities and equipment. This is the entry and general helper level in the school meals program. Employees receive on-the-job training in basic food production and cafeteria operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine food production and serving tasks
- Clean kitchen facilities and equipment
- Follow HACCP guidelines for safe food handling from receiving to service
- Practice standard sanitation procedures for care and cleaning of kitchen equipment
- Learn standard school cafeteria operations
- Gather necessary menu items, recipe ingredients, and supplies
- Comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions
- Communicate effectively to meet the needs of students, school staff, and the community
- Work cooperatively with others under constant deadlines
- Demonstrate the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS)
Requirements
- Ability to perform sustained moderate physical effort
- Ability to move objects weighing 40-60 pounds
- Ability to operate commercial food service equipment
- Ability to stand continuously and work in extreme temperature variations
- Completion of the ninth grade (High School or GED diploma preferred)
- Experience with food preparation techniques and safety procedures (or equivalent education/training)
- Valid Class C noncommercial driver’s license
- Sanitation certification (required or obtain within the first six months of employment)
Skills
- Basic food production knowledge
- Human relations skills for cooperative work under deadlines
- Ability to work with students, teachers, and school leadership staff
Pay
The wage range for this position is $20.65 to $26.16 per hour, based on years of service.
