FY27: Building Service Worker (Shift 2), 8hrs/12mos, Westland MS (ad closes 8/11/26)

Entry-level position performing building cleaning, facilities, and grounds maintenance in schools and administrative buildings. Includes on-the-job training in cleaning techniques, tool use, and equipment operation. Work is physically demanding, repetitive, and may involve lifting heavy objects (minimum 50 lbs.), with some exposure to hazards and disagreeable elements.

Responsibilities

• Clean interior of buildings using manual skills and custodial tools/equipment.
• Maintain grounds and facilities.
• Move and lift furniture and equipment.
• Monitor building spaces and grounds to ensure safety and security.
• Follow emergency facility response procedures.
• Communicate with customers and follow instructions.
• Adhere to the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

Requirements

• Completion of the ninth grade required; high school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience in general cleaning of buildings and grounds.
• Sufficient physical strength and freedom from disabling defects to perform manual labor.
• Considered emergency personnel; must report to buildings during inclement weather or other emergencies, including potential overtime or night work.
• Must provide and maintain a current working telephone number for supervisor contact.
• Must wear provided uniforms and proper attire.

Skills

• Basic knowledge of building and grounds maintenance methods, materials, and practices.
• Ability to learn operation and maintenance of custodial and grounds care equipment.
• Ability to learn proper use of approved cleaning supplies and chemicals.
• Basic knowledge of emergency facility response procedures.
• Ability to comprehend and follow instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers.

Pay

Wage range: $21.79 – $27.60 per hour, based on years of service.

Schedule

• Full-time, 12-month position.
• Evening shift.
