Under general supervision, performs building cleaning, facilities, and grounds maintenance work in schools and administrative buildings. This is the entry and general worker level in the building service staff positions. Employees receive on-the-job training in the application of simple manual skills and the use of cleaning and grounds tools, equipment, and supplies to clean the interior of buildings and maintain grounds.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repetitive cleaning tasks requiring sustained physical effort, including moving or lifting furniture and equipment (minimum 50 lbs.).
  • Operate and maintain custodial and grounds care equipment.
  • Use approved cleaning supplies and chemicals properly.
  • Monitor building spaces and grounds to ensure a safe and secure environment.
  • Follow emergency facility response procedures.
  • Comprehend and follow instructions, and communicate with customers.
  • Adhere to the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

Requirements

  • Completion of the ninth grade required; high school or GED diploma preferred.
  • Experience in general cleaning of buildings and grounds.
  • Sufficient physical strength and freedom from disabling defects to perform manual labor.
  • Considered emergency personnel; must report to buildings during inclement weather or other emergency situations.
  • May require frequent overtime, night work, or reporting to other locations to assist staff.
  • Must provide and maintain a current working telephone number for supervisor contact.
  • Must wear provided uniforms and proper attire.

Skills

  • Some knowledge of methods, materials, and practices of building and grounds work.
  • Ability to learn proper operation and maintenance of custodial and grounds care equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of emergency facility response procedures.

Pay

The wage range for this position is between $20.65 and $26.16 per hour, based on years of service.
