Summary Description

This paraeducator performs a variety of tasks to promote student learning and well-being, supporting students with Individualized Education Programs (IEP). They may assist students in various areas including academic, behavioral, social, emotional, and physical support. The paraeducator works in general education classes and specialized settings, and may be required to participate in off-campus learning activities.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate student mastery of grade-level curriculum or alternate academic standards
• Manage behaviors impacting student access to curriculum
• Support teachers and other professionals in classroom management and related clerical tasks
• Perform instructional and classroom management supports as needed

Requirements

• Frequent bending, walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds may be required
• Outside duty may be required
• Must be able to accommodate flexible scheduling and changes in location or program
• Continues planned instructional activities during teacher's absence

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree, required
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• College course work with a minimum of nine credit-hours related to education fields such as behavior management, instructional strategies
• One year of experience working with students in structured educational situations preferred
• Two to four years of experience working with children and adolescents in structured settings such as daycare, pre-school, etc.
• Successful completion of ParaPro Assessment with a qualifying score of 455 or higher

• Knowledge of child development
• Instructional strategies and practices applicable to assignment
• Instructional goals and policies of Montgomery County Public Schools
• Assist with implementation of the instructional program
• Monitor and ensure appropriate student behavior
• Exhibit patient behavior and work effectively with children, young adults, and staff members
• Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Read/write/speak English
• Interact with and support students with special needs
• Knowledge of standard computer hardware and software such as Google Workspace, MS Office, and web-based instructional tools
• Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn and meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS)

Pay

The wage range for this position is between $25.40 and $38.15 per hour, based on years of service.
