About the role

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) hires athletics coaches for one season at a time. Schools must hire qualified MCPS teachers or professional certified educators when available; emergency coaches may be hired if no qualified MCPS teacher or certified educator is available. Compensation and hours are governed by the Extracurricular Activities (ECA) Handbook and the MCEA Contract (Article 20).

Requirements

• Certified Coach: Must be an MCPS teacher or professional certified educator employed by MCPS; have completed or be enrolled in the two‑credit MCPS course “Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Coaching Fundamentals and CPR/AED” (offered periodically through the MCPS Athletics Unit); and complete/submit the online MCPS application.
• Level I Emergency Coach: Must be a certified teacher (not employed by MCPS); have completed the two‑credit MCPS course “Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Coaching Fundamentals and CPR/AED”; and complete/submit the online MCPS application.
• Level II Emergency Coach: Must be a high school graduate; be at least 21 years of age; have completed the two‑credit MCPS course “Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Coaching Fundamentals and CPR/AED”; and complete/submit the online MCPS application.

• Completion (or current enrollment) in the MCPS course “Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Coaching Fundamentals and CPR/AED.”
• Submission of the online MCPS application.
