FWSP Student Clerical - SOCIO
This is a Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) funded position serving as the department’s student secretarial/clerical/receptionist support staff. The role involves computer and customer service-related duties, supporting office procedures and processes, and requires handling some confidential information.
About the Department
The College of Liberal Arts offers more than two dozen undergraduate programs, minors, and graduate degrees. Every student at UCO takes numerous courses within the college, which is dedicated to challenging students to speak clearly, write well, appreciate difference, ask questions, act ethically, participate, value the past, engage the present, and create the future.
The Department of Sociology, Gerontology, and Substance Abuse Studies provides personalized classes with thought-provoking and problem-solving activities using traditional and new technological approaches. The department combines service learning and practicum experiences at local, national, and global levels. Students interested in understanding humankind, working with others, or pursuing careers such as counseling, social work, geriatric advocacy, or data analysis will find relevant preparation here.
Responsibilities
- Typing, filing, scanning, and making copies
- Running campus errands
- Answering telephones and scheduling appointments
- Working with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Performing other duties, tasks, and responsibilities as required
Schedule
20 hours per week.
Enrollment Requirements
Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must be enrolled at least half-time: 5 credit hours for graduates and 6 credit hours for undergraduates. F1/J1 Visa students must be enrolled full-time: 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.
Summer Semester: To work in a regular student position, students must be enrolled in at least 3 summer credit hours or be enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in the minimum credit hours required for their classification. Students enrolled in fewer than 3 summer credit hours will be subject to FICA taxes. For Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) positions, students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours (undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (graduate).
Enrollment Exception: If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources.
FWSP Requirements
To be considered for Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) employment, you must be awarded work study through the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships. The summer FWSP award requires a separate application process. Enrollment requirements for FWSP employment are the same each semester: undergraduates must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours, and graduates in a minimum of 5 credit hours. If enrolled in a final semester with fewer than the minimum required credit hours, the student must provide a letter from their Academic Advisor to the hiring department for submission to Human Resources.
