About the role
The Underwriting Manager is responsible for processing new complex credit requests, extending existing credit facilities, analyzing and recommending decisions on credit requests, assisting with portfolio management, and providing consultative underwriting advice.
Responsibilities
- Oversee credit underwriting activities to minimize credit losses.
- Train less-experienced credit staff and allocate work assignments.
- Support market growth by assessing credit needs and developing credit solutions.
- Provide consultative underwriting advice, credit analysis, and ongoing monitoring.
- Identify, classify, and monitor problem or potential problem loans in compliance with internal credit review policy.
- Perform portfolio reporting for senior management.
- Interact with various departments to address credit quality, risk compensation, and new business trends.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or related field preferred.
- 7-10+ years of banking, underwriting, and credit experience, or other directly related experience.
- 7-10+ years of underwriting commercial loans.
- 3-5 years of experience managing a team including training, onboarding, hiring, coaching/mentoring, performance management, and career development.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and managerial skills.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or other related field preferred.
- Experience: 7-10+ years of banking, underwriting, and credit experience, or other directly related experience.
- Underwriting Commercial Loans: 7-10+ years of underwriting commercial loans.
- Team Management: 3-5 years of experience managing a team to include training, onboarding, hiring, coaching/mentoring, performance management, and career development.
- Skills: Ability to analyze financial statements, tax returns, and collateral; excellent knowledge of commercial lending policies, procedures, practices, and documentation; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to perform independently with minimal supervision; strong organizational and managerial skills.
