Qualifications

  • Completed at least 2 years of study (48 semester hours) at an institution of higher education;
  • Obtained an associate's (or higher) degree;
  • Met a rigorous standard of quality as determined by a formal assessment.

Essential Functions

  • Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning the material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Devises special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
  • Supervises independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
  • Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
  • Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make up work, as assigned by the teacher.
  • Checks and records student attendance.
  • Collects and records collection of money.
  • Alerts the teacher to any problems or special information about an individual student.
  • Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of a fully licensed teacher.
  • Provides a physical environment that is safe, orderly, hazard-free, and conducive to learning.
  • Consistently implements approved disciplinary measures to allow for effective instruction and classroom management.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Participates in in-service training programs, as assigned.
  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the immediate supervisor may from time to time assign.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to professional growth.

  • Adheres to policies and procedures established by district, school, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Submits required reports efficiently, promptly, and accurately.
  • Inventory classroom materials, textbooks, and equipment.
