Responsibilities
- Develop products within assigned categories from concept to completion.
- Coordinate with designer and PLM to create in-depth market research to determine market needs and demands.
- Provide improvements to the development process.
- Create and maintain sample and development calendar.
- Manage fittings and fit comments throughout the development process.
- Manage competitive benchmarking, product features, and product opportunities options.
- Create development reviews for vendors, including identifying changes, next steps, sizing, etc.
- Negotiate pricing with vendors, review/change BOM to meet pricing targets, create size charts, etc.
- Solo overseas travel to factories to work on design projects.
- Other design responsibilities as needed.
Requirements
- 3-5 years’ experience within the product development field.
- An interest, or active participation, in the powersports industry is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of manufacturing practice and methods in the garment industry, including sewing, materials, construction layout, and pattern making.
- Focus on bags/luggage is preferred.
- Highly organized, self-starter with the drive to manage vendor partnerships and projects effectively with minimal supervision.
- Ability to effectively problem solve a variety of issues while maintaining a solution-based approach.
- High proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Experience in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; project management software is a plus.
- Broad understanding of the development process, create tech packs, and work directly with vendors.
- Broad understanding of garment construction, material, and trims.
- Understanding of materials, structures, functions, and how they can be used in the development process.
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the design, manufacturing, and production process.
- Ability to guide and foster growth in a collaborative team environment within multiple disciplines.
Physical Requirements
- Regular physical ability to walk and function in elevation changes by means of self-propulsion, including steps, ladders, and varied walking and working surfaces.
- Ability to negotiate warehouse work areas safely.
- Vision abilities including close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
- Use of hands to handle tools, objects, materials, and controls.
- Frequent ability to sit, talk, hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Ability to read, write, and understand basics of the English language.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and up to 45 pounds assisted or if capable.
