Responsibilities

  • Exceptional attendance including working every day, on time, as scheduled.
  • Strong desire to work safely and help others also work safely. Takes primary responsibility for their own safety.
  • Follows all policies and procedures. Understands safety is a condition of employment.
  • Maintains proper batch storage, delivery, weighing, and mixing.
  • Works with QC and raw material carriers to approve unloading of raw materials into silos.
  • Evaluates batch plant control systems data and makes appropriate adjustments to ensure process operates efficiently and remains in control.
  • Maintains exceptional housekeeping and organization in all areas of responsibility including but not limited to batch house, furnace level, furnace sump level, forehearth level, and control room.
  • Monitors and adjusts critical process variables, including but not limited to, natural gas firing, electric boost power, pressure, temperature, flow rates, oxygen, bubblers, glass level, batch line, etc.
  • Monitors and controls glass formation in furnace and forehearth to ensure optimum mixing, melting, and furnace throughput.
  • Inspects furnace and forehearth per required frequency and takes appropriate action when issues are found.
  • Aids in furnace changes, upsets, start-ups, shutdowns, repairs, and rebuilds.
  • Guides and assists maintenance personnel in batch and furnace repairs.
  • Performs minor repairs and process adjustments, as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Prior furnace operations experience.
  • Three or more years of manufacturing experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to provide simple and accurate instructions.
  • Ability to work at times in a high temperature environment.
  • Frequent lifting or moving materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Required to work 12 hour rotating shift schedule including working days and nights and rotating frequently.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, reach, and grasp.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders and work from heights.
