About the Role
Alumicore is a Pittsburgh, PA-based company specializing in aluminum melting operations, with a branch in Goose Creek, SC. We partner with customers to deliver innovative solutions for the aerospace, beverage can, automotive, and high-end specialty markets. The Furnace Equipment Operator plays a critical role in maintaining, operating, and coordinating furnace systems and melt operations.
Responsibilities
- Skim sows to support safe and efficient furnace operations; assist with the skimming process as required.
- Ensure the team follows proper specifications and guidelines for each batch of sows; inspect sows for quality, rebleeds, over pours, and bad skims.
- Weigh sows accurately and provide documentation to the supervisor in a timely manner.
- Neatly stack and store sows in the designated storage area for each respective furnace.
- Conduct trough maintenance by raking and cleaning the trough to prepare for the next pour.
- Support baghouse maintenance by maintaining proper lime levels in the lime injection system and monitoring dust bags beneath the auger conveyor.
- Prepare molds using sow release agent to ensure readiness for production.
- Contribute to a respectful and collaborative team environment through professional conduct and positive communication.
- Inspect equipment and work areas to identify potential safety hazards or maintenance concerns.
- Perform routine housekeeping duties, including sweeping floors and removing debris, to maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Support preventative maintenance activities and minor equipment adjustments as directed.
- Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures when required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade training preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with comfort working around industrial equipment.
- 1+ years’ experience running forklifts, small mobile equipment, skid steers, and/or metal experience preferred.
- Basic computer proficiency preferred.
- Experience working around heavy equipment and industrial processes preferred.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to enforce quality and safety standards consistently.
Working Conditions
- Work in a physically demanding, high-heat, deadline-driven, and production-focused setting.
- Exposure to noise, moving equipment, heat, dust, materials from operational areas, molten metal, and extreme temperature variations.
- Prolonged standing and walking throughout the shift.
- Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs.
- Climbing stairs and working at varying heights as required.
- Tasks requiring manual dexterity and visual acuity; kneeling, sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing.
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas.
- Willing and able to work overtime when needed.
