As the Location Leader you drive day-to-day operations, uphold customer-service standards, serve as the company’s community ambassador, and ensure the financial health of the location(s) while developing a high-performance, family-centric team.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain a strong local “brand” through community relationships, social-media innovation (Facebook, Instagram), and alignment with the company’s business segments.
- Present every client family with all service and merchandise options—Every Family, Every Option, Every Time—while clearly communicating the value of ShareLife® to create a differentiated guest experience.
- Maintain open, effective communication and accurate, timely client files to support overall location efficiency.
- Uphold customer-service standards as defined for the brand(s).
- Oversee facility management, including fleet vehicles, building maintenance, landscaping, painting, and parking-lot upkeep.
- Manage all financial components: vendor relationships, check signing, annual budgeting, accounts payable/receivable, labor management, daily sales outstanding (DSO), revenue, and EBITDA.
- Lead monthly and quarterly financial and business reviews with team members; drive revenue, sales, and business results.
- Coordinate disaster-relief efforts (hurricanes, winter storms, tornadoes, etc.) with your supervisor to ensure the safety of team members, client families, and the facility.
- Partner with home-office department leaders (marketing, finance, HR, IT) through regular two-way communication.
- Increase market share through membership by serving as a board/officer in at least one community organization (e.g., Rotary), participating in at least two community events, and cultivating other community relationships as assigned.
- Identify potential acquisitions.
- Perform assigned projects and duties such as car washing, building/equipment repair, and pre-need arrangement planning.
- Participate in weekly update calls with your supervisor to share resources and track goal progress.
- Oversee all team members during services, ensuring each understands their role and professionally represents the location.
- Lead all employee-relations activities: staffing to meet business needs, onboarding and training new hires, talent review, succession planning, coaching, and development.
- Manage all labor components for location team members: scheduling, labor margins, overtime, and timecards.
- Oversee pre-need production, including budget management, staffing for pre-need sales, and ensuring at-need families are aware of future pre-need offerings.
- Conduct initial transfers of decedents; embalm, dress, cosmetize, casket, and prepare deceased as needed (per appropriate licensing) according to family instructions.
- Complete all tasks and details resulting from the arrangement conference.
- Ensure proper paperwork—permits, certificates, etc.—is completed timely and in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Supervise and support funeral services; oversee all post-service follow-up, address family concerns and complaints, and review family-survey feedback.
- Use systems/technology (arrangement-conference tools, etc.) to review merchandise options, enter contracts, and complete necessary forms during arrangement conversations.
- Lead a team of funeral directors and team members, resolving concerns and complaints effectively, and building strong relationships with peers and direct reports.
- Plan and coordinate events such as catering, community events, graveside services, funeral arrangements, and floral displays.
- Manage labor-cost systems effectively, minimizing overtime and understanding effective vs. ineffective scheduling.
- Utilize various forms of technology and communications: online portals, social media, email, live webinars, text, and phone.
- Perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid state-issued funeral director license (as per state licensing requirements).
- Experience in decedent care, including embalming (per state requirements).
- Minimum of one to three years of combined management experience and funeral-industry experience preferred.
- Keep all licenses and continuing-education requirements current and in good standing.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Availability to work on-call/first call in rotation as assigned (phone, face-to-face, at hospital, hospice, residence, etc.).
- Demonstrate empathy, emotional intelligence, and a servant-leadership mindset to all internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills; ability to prioritize work.
- High attention to detail and accuracy, with excellent follow-up skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to stand for two or more hours without rest.
- Ability to safely lift up to 150 lbs.
- Valid state-issued driver’s license with a clear driving record.
