About the role
The Funeral Director/Embalmer manages all phases of the funeral arrangement, from setting up funeral services to final disposition.
Responsibilities
- Ensures every client family is presented with all service and merchandise options — Every Family, Every Option, Every Time
- Contributes to the overall efficiency of the location by maintaining open and effective communication and accurate, timely client files
- Acts to improve market share through participation in community events, groups, organizations, and other community relationships
- Carries out other projects/duties as assigned (e.g., car washing, building/equipment repair, pre-need arrangement planning)
- Oversees all team members participating in services, ensuring each understands their role and professionally represents the location
- Communicates areas of successful performance and performance needing improvement to meet business expectations
- Works on-call/first call in rotation (phone, face-to-face, at hospitals, hospice, residences)
- Transfers decedents, embalms, dresses, cosmetizes, caskets, and prepares deceased as needed per family instructions and licensing
- Meets with client families to listen, educate, and arrange personalized funeral services, ensuring a high-quality experience
- Completes tasks and details resulting from the arrangement conference
- Ensures proper paperwork, including permits and certificates, is completed timely and in compliance with laws and regulations
- Conducts and attends funeral services regularly
- Leads all post-service follow-ups as needed
Requirements
- Current state licensure for funeral directing and embalming
- Self-motivated and energetic
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Caring, empathetic, and committed to providing best-in-class service
- Sensitivity and knowledge of different philosophical systems, religions, and cultural practices
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Valid state-issued driver’s license with a clear driving record
