Funeral Director

University of Rochester Medicine Rochester, NY Share Responsibilities Assists families in regard to donation of remains to the University’s body donor program. Makes removals from, and deliveries to public and private institutions. Designates appropriate uses of donor remains in accordance with rules and regulations pursuant to the provisions of the Public Health Law of the State of New York and the National Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards of the United States Inc. Receives donations and completes death certificates, files death certificates with the Bureau of Vital Statistics on behalf of the family and the University. Obtains burial or cremation permits as required. Maintains records of all committed and received remains as well as ultimate disposal records. Signs and returns each New York State burial, transit, or cremation permits to the Bureau of Vital Statistics as necessary. Performs embalming procedures. Cremates remains and arranges for return of the ashes to families, or ultimate disposal as programmatically defined. Operates and maintains an embalming laboratory, cadaver storage facility, and crematorium. Maintains Gross Anatomy laboratories. Provides services and supplies specimens to University programs or associated educational, service or research institutions. Works closely with department heads regarding medical post-graduate training programs and professional medical staff skills maintenance activities. Other duties as assigned.
