Responsibilities
- Develops systems and procedures to support the identification, development, and stewardship of strategic partnerships and conducts research to identify potential grant and contract opportunities at the local, state, and federal levels.
- Leads funding management activities including preparation of funding authorization packages and quarterly and annual reporting for state and federally funded projects.
- Implements and executes the funding strategy with client partners and stakeholders and identifies and communicates risks associated with funding opportunities; supports clients in planning, winning, and managing competitive grant funding from federal, state, and local sources.
- Continuously develops and maintains a strong working knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations in the transportation, parks, and public works spaces.
- Creates and maintains professional relationships with client partners; communicates and responds appropriately to meet business needs and objectives and facilitates opportunities for funding collaboration among the agency client partners.
- Fully understands the goals and funding priorities of the sponsor, evaluates program content and requirements of the funding opportunity.
- Serves as a project manager for grant assistance contracts; ensures the scope, schedule, and budget for all contracts are managed successfully.
- Collaborates with internal project managers/leaders and coordinates additional resources for the development of funding efforts.
- Prepares complex grant applications and compiles all other necessary input to complete grant proposals as needed; reviews all grants before submission.
- Supervises and reviews the overall grants work completed by Funding Specialists.
- Works cooperatively and as a productive team member with project managers/leaders on the Funding team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree is required in Transportation Planning, English, Creative Writing, Communications, Business, or relevant area of study.
- 5-8+ years of professional grants strategy, writing, and funding management experience for government agencies.
- Experience writing grants for public works and transportation (construction or preconstruction) preferred such as Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program, Senate Bill 1, and USDOT federal discretionary programs.
- Demonstrated success in writing winning grant proposals and positioning clients for funding opportunities.
- Demonstrated relationship management expertise; maintains an established and growing network of industry and agency professionals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Superior interpersonal skills including courtesy, professionalism, and a cooperative attitude
- Ability to work and build relationships with agency/client partners to deliver the funding product; demonstrated passion for helping clients successfully pursue and manage grants preferred
- Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with a variety of unique and diverse people and personalities within and outside the Company.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and resourceful; responsive to feedback
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to travel within the state as needed for client meetings and industry events.
