Responsibilities
- Promote a strong safety-first culture by integrating functional safety practices into daily engineering and development activities.
- Develop and define Functional Safety concepts, requirements, and safety architectures for autonomous vehicle control systems.
- Apply and support the complete Functional Safety lifecycle in accordance with industry best practices.
- Perform comprehensive hazard and risk analyses using STPA, FMEA, and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) methodologies.
- Collaborate with hardware, software, and systems engineering teams to allocate and implement functional safety requirements.
- Review and support safety verification, validation, testing, and simulation activities to ensure compliance with safety objectives.
- Ensure adherence to functional safety standards including ISO 25119, ISO 13849, IEC 61508, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Prepare, maintain, and review safety documentation, including Safety Plans, Safety Cases, Safety Reports, and compliance records.
- Participate in internal and external safety audits, assessments, and regulatory reviews, ensuring successful compliance outcomes.
- Provide technical leadership and functional safety guidance to cross-functional project teams while driving risk mitigation strategies.
- Conduct Safety Integrity Level (SIL) assessments, risk evaluations, and safety analyses to identify and mitigate system hazards.
- Stay current with emerging functional safety standards, autonomous vehicle technologies, and industry best practices, while effectively presenting safety analyses and recommendations to leadership, customers, and regulatory authorities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in functional safety engineering, preferably in the automotive or aerospace industries.
- Experience with ISO 25119, ISO 13849, IEC 61508, and other relevant functional safety standards.
- Strong understanding of STPA, FMEA, and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) methodologies.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Ability to lead and mentor a team in functional safety practices.
- Proficiency in safety documentation tools and processes.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance requirements.
