About the Fellowship

The Knight Science Journalism (KSJ) Fellowship Program is a fully funded, research-based opportunity for journalists interested in science, technology, and journalism. Based in the United States, the program runs for 9.5 months and supports ten fellows from around the world. Participants will work on a research topic related to journalism, gaining experience from top institutions and research specialists.

Fellows will apply their skills to investigate and gather data from multiple sources, with opportunities to present their work through theoretical frameworks, films, recordings, and presentations. Selected research projects may be published as journal articles or research papers. The program also includes workshops to teach new technical skills, social events for networking, and field visits to enhance learning.

Eligibility Criteria

• Journalists must be employed full-time (including freelancers and staff). Part-time producers and writers are not eligible.
• Applicants must have at least three years of experience in science, medicine, or journalism.
• Open to journalists, media writers, reporters, and filmmakers.
• Applicants should not have participated in any four-month fellowship program in the preceding two years.

Requirements

• A 500-word CV detailing educational background, employment history, honors, awards, and reasons for participating in the program.
• An outline of the research project you intend to complete during the fellowship.
• Five examples of previous work.
• Three recommendation letters, including contact information for recommenders.

• Total compensation of $85,000 for the 9.5-month fellowship.
