Full Time - Head Cashier - Day
About the role
Lowe’s Customer Service Associates deliver SMART customer service through daily execution of Lowe’s policies, procedures, and programs. This role involves assisting customers in locating, demonstrating, and selecting merchandise, as well as handling sales transactions, returns, and store operations.
Responsibilities
- Seek out customers to understand their needs and assist in locating, demonstrating, selecting, carrying, and/or loading merchandise.
- Respond knowledgeably and promptly to customer and employee questions by guiding them through store areas and projects.
- Communicate information about stock, special order merchandise, features, benefits, applications, and warranties related to Lowe’s programs.
- Coach, develop, provide feedback, and train associates in departmental duties or sales opportunities (e.g., CSA Front End Team).
- Operate a cash register to process sales transactions, returns, and refunds according to company guidelines.
- Provide proper monetary change to CSA Front End associates for register activities.
- Remove security tags, verify product information, and bag merchandise for customers.
- Assist in line management to reduce checkout wait times, including opening additional registers as needed.
- Prepare register areas at the start and end of shifts by confirming functionality and stocking supplies.
- Inspect returned merchandise for damages.
- Enter and submit customer orders, print order tickets, verify receipts, and sign off on loading tickets.
- Look up product information and competitor prices to verify price matches.
- Record all store-used items on store use lists.
- Complete cash counting and daily reconciliation duties as assigned.
- Monitor cash drawer and cash recycler levels to ensure they do not exceed limits.
- Monitor merchandise entering and leaving store entrances/exits and assist customers or associates triggering alarms.
- Detect common signs of shoplifting, theft, and other security risks, and report them to management or Asset Protection.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store and work areas through housekeeping standards (e.g., Zone Recovery).
- Ensure a safe and secure work environment by conducting daily safety reviews, noting hazards, and securing doors/gates.
- Adhere to all safety requirements, including top stock safety, reinstalling safety cables, using aisle blockers, tether lines, spotters, and safety devices.
- Operate store equipment as needed (e.g., Zebra phone, cash recycler, computers, CCTV, key cutter, panel saw, paint mixer, flooring cutters, compacter baler).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED (or equivalent years of experience in lieu of education).
- Less than 1 year of experience using a computer, including inputting, accessing, modifying, or outputting information.
- Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
- 1 year of retail experience as a cashier.
- Ability to obtain sales-related licensure or registration as required by law.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 year of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs, including credit cards, installations, add-on sales, and explaining warranties.
- 1 year of experience as a head cashier.
- Less than 1 year of experience working in any department at a Lowe’s retail store.
- 1 year of supervisory experience in any field, including directing, delegating, evaluating, training, and coaching employees.
- Less than 1 year of retail experience detecting common signs of shoplifting (e.g., hidden merchandise, switched price labels).
Pay
$15.50 - $17.40 per hour. Starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, position offered, location, education, training, and/or experience.
