FULL TIME EVENINGS Behavioral Healthcare Assistant

Job Summary

Behavioral Health Assistants provide competency-based direct care to children, adolescents, and adults in our inpatient behavioral health units. They assist in providing a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for our patients. These inpatient units offer crisis stabilization services and most patients are admitted involuntarily via the Baker Act, the mental health act of Florida. The typical length of stay is 3-5 days.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for patients.
  • Monitors behaviors and documents observed behaviors in the patient record.
  • Provides ongoing attention and interaction with patients to establish supportive relationships, learn patient concerns and goals, and assist in achieving successful outcomes.
  • Affords assistance with personal hygiene and ADLs based on age, culture, and functional level.
  • Ensures adherence to the daily schedule that meets patients' needs and interests.
  • Conducts safety checks at least every 15 minutes, following policy and procedure or as directed by the supervisor.
  • Serves as a liaison during fresh air breaks and visitation periods.
  • Keeps abreast of admission/discharge status, patient privileges/restrictions, special information, treatment plans, and unusual events.
  • Documents vital signs under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Paramedic (PMD) certification preferred.
  • One year of experience in direct patient care preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills essential.

Position Details

  • Monday through Friday, 3:00pm to 11:30pm (rotating weekends).
  • Adult Unit and Children and Adolescent Unit.
