As a Full-Time Day Custodian, you will ensure facilities are kept clean, safe, and well-maintained, supporting an environment where students can thrive.

Responsibilities

  • Clean assigned interior areas: hallways, restrooms, offices, classrooms, multi-purpose rooms, and any other areas assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintain exterior areas: perimeter of school building, parking lot, playground, windows, and any other areas assigned by supervisor.
  • Empty trash from all receptacles.
  • Dust FF&E, window sills, air vents, and other assigned areas.
  • Clean and sterilize restroom facilities.
  • Clean up bodily messes including vomit, feces, urine, and blood in accordance with training.
  • Remove waste in the cafeteria for breakfast and lunch; assist with cleaning cafeteria tables and floors.
  • Sterilize high-use areas to reduce the spread of bacteria and harmful agents.
  • Assist the Head Custodian with cleaning projects or tasks.
  • Assist in creating and implementing preventative maintenance processes to extend the life of facility components.
  • Travel to nearby schools or warehouse/storage as required.
  • Participate in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to job assignments.
  • Review current developments and literature related to janitorial responsibilities.
  • Ensure adherence to OSHA and safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as delegated by the supervisor.
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as company policies.
  • Carry a hand-held radio while on school property if assigned by supervisor.
  • Remain on school property from the beginning to the end of the workday, including lunch.
  • Report and assist with all emergency situations as needed.
  • Obtain permission from the Facilities Supervisor before leaving campus for any reason.

Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; continuing education in construction or facilities-related fields preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of janitorial or trade experience.
  • Must possess the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for the role.

Work Environment

  • Typical school working conditions; may be noisy during high student traffic.

Physical Demands

  • Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
  • Travel within or outside the state may be required.

This position is nonexempt and subject to the minimum wage and overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
