About the role

The Iron County School District is seeking two full-time Custodian II positions:

  • Cedar High School – 3:00 PM–11:00 PM
  • Canyon View High School – 3:00 PM–11:00 PM

The Full-Time Custodian II, under the direction of the Head Custodian and in coordination with the Principal, performs a variety of cleaning work in offices, classrooms, restrooms, or other buildings; assists in maintenance activities; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains good housekeeping and proper care of school grounds, keeping them safe and free of obstructions.
  • Follows preventative maintenance procedures and reports inoperable equipment to the supervisor.
  • Ensures energy efficiency by monitoring windows, doors, lights, and other areas according to district policy.
  • Assists with grounds upkeep (e.g., mowing, trimming, watering, raking) to ensure a safe and attractive environment.
  • Assists with minor repairs (e.g., adjusting desks, replacing lights, fixing door closers, plumbing, broken sprinklers).
  • Prepares sites for daily operations (e.g., opening gates, raising flags, sweeping walkways) to ensure facilities are operational and hazard-free.
  • Assists with snow removal to ensure access and safety.
  • Cleans assigned facilities and grounds (e.g., classrooms, offices, gyms, restrooms, multipurpose rooms) to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.
  • Performs minor maintenance on custodial equipment (e.g., changing vacuum cleaner belts, bags).
  • Performs summer cleaning and maintenance (e.g., stripping and waxing floors, moving furniture, painting).
  • Ensures all doors, windows, and building areas are secure at the end of the day.
  • Replenishes classroom and restroom supplies (e.g., paper towels, soap).
  • Vacuums and sweeps all rooms, corridors, halls, and offices at least once daily.
  • Mops restroom floors, cleans and disinfects fixtures, cleans mirrors and stalls, and checks paper and hand soap daily.
  • Observes and suggests repairs, alterations, changes, and equipment needs in the school.
  • Responds to immediate safety and operational concerns (e.g., facility damage, vandalism, alarms) and notifies appropriate personnel.
  • Reports safety, sanitary, and fire hazards.
  • Responds to inquiries from staff, students, parents, and visitors, directing them to appropriate personnel as needed.

Requirements

  • Basic computer knowledge, familiarity with Google Docs, and frequent email checking.
  • Willingness to learn and use all computer systems and software as needed.
  • Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance and job performance.
