About the role

The Culinary Assistant plays an integral role in the success of our team, our community, and creating a place our residents are proud to call home. The primary purpose of this position is to provide assistance in all dietary functions as directed and in accordance with established Culinary Operations policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Serve meals that are palatable and appetizing in appearance.
  • Serve food in accordance with established portion control procedures.
  • Provide Platinum Service® to each resident, guest, and staff member.
  • Prepare food in accordance with sanitary regulations and established policies and procedures.
  • Assist in daily and scheduled cleaning duties.
  • Set up meal trays, food carts, and the dining room as instructed.
  • Distribute and collect menus as necessary.
  • Set up and prepare food for upcoming meals.
  • Assist with bussing tables during and after meals.
  • Check meal trays for accuracy before distribution.
  • Ensure appropriate equipment and utensils are provided with the resident's meal tray.
  • Deliver food carts and trays to designated areas.
  • Assist with the set up and refill of catering and/or buffet functions.
  • Prepare and deliver snacks as instructed.
  • Ensure that food and supplies for the next meal are readily available.
  • Assist in food preparation as requested.
  • Maintain a clean work area and kitchen by sweeping and mopping as needed.
  • Assist with cleaning the dining area and the backroom kitchen area as needed.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Be able to make independent decisions and follow instructions.
  • Deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the public.
  • Capable of working with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally upset people within the facility.
  • Communicate in a manner that is sufficient for effective communication with supervisors, team members, residents, and families.
  • Must meet all applicable state and federal requirements for this position.
  • Food service and/or hospitality experience preferred.

Skills

  • Frequently lift/carry 30 lbs. and occasionally lift/carry 50 lbs.
  • Frequently push/pull up to 30 lbs. and occasionally push/pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Bending, twisting, stooping.
  • Reaching at or below the shoulder.
  • Frequently standing or walking.
  • Ability to express yourself clearly and effectively.

Working Conditions

  • Tasks may involve potential and/or direct exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, air contaminants, and hazardous chemicals.
  • May be exposed to heat from kitchen equipment and cold from kitchen freezer.
