About the role

Working with minimal supervision, the Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations. The position involves developing and promoting a sales culture, providing guest service, and supervising store associates.

Responsibilities

  • Provide best-in-class guest service: greet guests promptly, respond to questions and concerns, assist with video gaming needs, and promote GameStop’s guest benefits.
  • Support the total shopping environment, including visual merchandising and operational elements.
  • Process guest purchases and returns accurately and efficiently.
  • Respond to guest inquiries and escalate issues to the Store Manager.
  • Achieve sales, profit, and shrink goals while performing administrative and operational duties.
  • Supervise store associates, schedule shifts, and ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Perform inventory counts, stock merchandise, and maintain store cleanliness.
  • Ensure store security and safety, and report any incidents.

Requirements

  • Must provide proof of identity and eligibility to legally work in the United States.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred.
  • At least 6 months of retail management experience preferred.
  • At least 2 years of retail sales, guest service, and/or management experience preferred.
  • Video game knowledge preferred.

  • Demonstrate clear verbal and written communication and listening skills.
  • Work independently and within a team to perform all tasks as assigned and in a timely manner.
  • Meet associate performance expectations, including attendance, personal appearance, safety, and respectful workplace.
  • Operate Point-of-Sale (POS) computer system.
  • Complete required paperwork properly.
  • Carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Execute financial tasks in strict accordance with company policy.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including extended hours/days as necessary, including nights, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Constructively manage pressure and adapt to stressful situations without impact on guest interactions; be creative and a problem solver.
  • Able to work alone. Stand and move throughout the store unassisted for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Bend, stoop, crouch, balance, stretch, reach with arms/hands, climb on ladders, lift merchandise weighing up to 30 lbs. from ground level to minimum height of 4 feet, and utilize other basic fine and gross motor skills.
