About the role
Working with minimal supervision, the Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations. The position involves promoting a sales culture, providing guest service, managing staff, and ensuring the store runs smoothly.
Responsibilities
- Provide best-in-class guest service: greet guests promptly, respond to questions and concerns, assist with video gaming needs, and promote special promotions.
- Support the total shopping environment, including visual merchandising, sales initiatives, and guest relationships.
- Process guest purchases/returns accurately and efficiently using the Point-of-Sale (POS) system.
- Respond to guest comments/questions, escalate issues to the Store Manager, and promote GameStop’s guest benefits.
- Achieve sales, profit, and shrink goals by managing store associates, scheduling shifts, and ensuring compliance with company policies.
- Maintain store cleanliness, organize merchandise, and fulfill Omni-Channel orders.
- Protect company assets through inventory control and loss prevention practices, and report any injuries promptly.
- Perform administrative tasks such as inventory counts, stock restocking, and bank deposits.
- Communicate with the Store Manager regarding store performance and address any concerns or issues.
Requirements
- Must provide proof of identity and eligibility to legally work in the United States.
- At least 18 years old.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred.
- At least 6 months of retail management experience preferred.
- At least 2 years of retail sales, guest service, and/or management experience preferred.
- Video game knowledge preferred.

- Possess an outgoing and welcoming personality with strong people skills.
- Demonstrate clear verbal and written communication and listening skills, both in person and on the phone.
- Work independently and within a team to perform all tasks as assigned and in a timely manner.
- Meet associate performance expectations, including attendance, personal appearance, safety, and respectful workplace.
- Operate Point-of-Sale (POS) computer system.
- Complete required paperwork properly.
- Carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Execute financial tasks in strict accordance with company policy.
- Be available for a minimum of 3 days/week and work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Constructively manage pressure and adapt to stressful situations without impacting guest interactions; be creative and a problem solver.
- Be reliable and trustworthy; always use good judgment.
- Able to work alone and perform physical tasks such as standing, moving, bending, stooping, stretching, reaching, climbing, lifting up to 30 lbs., and utilizing fine and gross motor skills.
- Possess or acquire a working understanding of military ranks and related insignia (only applies to positions in stores located on military bases).
