Full Time Assistant Director of Care

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing, current registration with the Ontario College of Nurses
• Demonstrated knowledge of nursing clinical care and gerontology
• 3 years relevant supervisory experience, preferably in Long Term Care
• In-depth knowledge and understanding of Fixing Long Term Care Act and Ontario Regulations and the College of Nurses standards
• Highly effective leadership, facilitation, presentation, interpersonal and organizational skills
• Ability to build effective relationships and work productively in a team environment
• Ability to effectively manage a multi-disciplinary staff in an unionized environment
• Advanced working knowledge of the internet, MS Office, specifically Excel and Word, Point Click Care (PCC)
• Inter-RAI-LTCF experience an asset
• Knowledge of and experience with financial management and expenditure control preferred
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations
• Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with the ability to function effectively independently, within a team, with front line personnel, and management
• Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment with excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize workload
• Proven ability to perform the essential duties of the position on a regular basis

Basic Responsibilities

• Oversees and manages the work and services provided by the nursing staff to meet the nursing and personal care needs of the residents within a multidisciplinary team environment
• Manages day-to-day operations and activities of the Registered Practical Nurses and Health Care Attendants (Personal Support Workers) in the Nursing Department
• Manages human resources through a collaborative approach with corporate Human Resources, employees and unions
• Develops annual goals and objectives consistent with mission and strategic direction of the organization
• Develops and evaluates policies and procedures ensuring compliance with all legislated standards and regulations
• Implements best practices and continuous quality initiatives to ensure resident and staff satisfaction
• Acts as a clinical resource for the multidisciplinary team
• Serves as a liaison between the LTC home and educational institutions for student placements
• Assesses and evaluates the nursing service programs ensuring compliance with Provincial standards and legislations
• Conducts analysis and follows up on issues related to resident care, infection control, nursing quality and risk management programs
• Develops and administers the annual operating and capital budget
• Identifies ethical issues and collaborates with the Director of Care for resolution
• Provides clinical information for Corporate IT decision support
• Assumes responsibility for the administration of the nursing department in the absence of the Director of Care
• Carries out work assignments safely and is knowledgeable of and in compliance with relevant regulations, policies and procedures (i.e. Occupational Health and Safety Act, Fixing Long Term Care Act and Ontario Regulations)
