(Full-time) American Sign Language Instructor
The Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District (Shasta College) is located at the northern end of the Sacramento Valley, surrounded by mountains. About the Role
Under administrative leadership, the full-time college instructor is responsible for teaching classes and contributing to processes that improve instruction, student success, and program quality while advancing the vision, mission, and values of Shasta College. This is a full-time instructional faculty position.
Full-time instructional faculty are contracted to work 175 days per year, including 164 days of classroom instruction and 11 days of professional growth and development. Instructors receive up to 18 weeks off per year during summer and winter intercessions. The Fall and Spring semesters each span 17 weeks (approximately 82 instructional days), with the Fall semester running from late August to mid-December and the Spring semester from mid-January to mid-May. Responsibilities
- Teach assigned classes and laboratories in accordance with the academic calendar.
- Develop and implement instruction aligned with official course outlines and District guidelines.
- Maintain online course components for hybrid and online classes, ensuring regular student-instructor and student-student interaction.
- Distribute a syllabus during the first week of class outlining course description, objectives, grading, testing, attendance, and other requirements per District guidelines.
- Provide regular, timely feedback to students and return graded work promptly.
- Assign final grades in compliance with District policy, administrative procedures, California Education Code, and Title 5.
- Respect student rights as specified in District policy and applicable laws.
- Submit requisitions for textbooks and instructional materials in a timely manner, considering student cost.
- Refer students to tutoring and support services as needed.
- Supervise students during off-campus activities when required as part of coursework or instructor load.
- Hold scheduled office hours, clearly communicated to students and division staff, to provide academic assistance.
- Participate in professional development to remain current in the assigned discipline.
- Submit required administrative paperwork, including student learning outcomes, accurately and on time.
- Schedule and maintain office hours, ensuring clear communication to students and division staff.
- Engage in participatory governance through District committees.
- Participate in curriculum review and development of new courses to meet student or community needs.
- Contribute to program review and annual planning cycles.
- Assist in faculty hiring processes as needed.
- Attend and participate in department and division meetings.
- Assess learning outcomes and engage in related processes.
- Participate in required professional development activities to improve pedagogy and student success.
- Maintain professional skills and subject matter expertise.
- Fulfill flex requirements as outlined in the faculty collective bargaining agreement.
- Participate in the evaluation process per the faculty collective bargaining agreement.
- Maintain and submit official records required by District policy.
- Adhere to District policies on property and safety.
- Report absences to the supervising administrator.
- Recommend purchases of instructional supplies and equipment as needed.
- Fulfill obligations outlined in the current collective bargaining agreement.
- Perform discipline-specific responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
Education Required: Bachelor’s degree or higher and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience. Professional experience is required when the applicant holds a master’s degree and must be directly related to the faculty member’s teaching assignment.
Experience Required: Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students, including those with physical and/or learning disabilities.
Pay
Starting salary: $65,087.95 - $106,711.83 per year on the 2026-2027 Full-Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
Salary range: $65,087.95 - $138,153.86 per year on the 2026-2027 Full-Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
Additional $2,000 per year for a doctorate degree.
Eligible for State Teachers Retirement System (STRS).
Schedule
This position is anticipated to start at the beginning of the Spring 2027 semester. Instruction may take place at the Main Campus in Redding, the Tehama Campus in Red Bluff, and/or online.
