About the Role
The Principal Full Stack Engineer for the AI Platform & Agents will play a pivotal role in building and scaling our Generative AI (GenAI) platform, which powers essential decision-making tools in healthcare, legal, tax, and compliance sectors. This role involves designing, developing, and deploying full-stack systems that enable rapid development, validation, and deployment of AI agents. You will work within a dynamic, remote-first engineering team consisting of approximately 100 engineers, collaborating closely with product managers, UX designers, and domain experts to deliver customer-focused solutions with measurable outcomes. Your work will directly impact the development of flagship AI agents, such as UpToDate Expert AI, transforming healthcare delivery by providing real-time medical assistance to millions of physicians globally. This is a high-autonomy, high-impact role where you will lead by example, mentor junior engineers, and take ownership of complex projects from conception to production.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong full-stack development skills
- Cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Proficiency in at least one of the following areas: AI Agent development and evaluation, backend development, frontend development, cloud services, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), quality engineering/testing strategy, secure SDLC, privacy by design
- Proven track record of delivering secure, reliable, cloud-native systems to production
- Excellent problem-solving skills, ownership mentality, and cross-functional communication abilities
Responsibilities
- Design and implement full-stack applications, AI agents, and platform components to facilitate rapid development, validation, and deployment of GenAI agents
- Develop developer tooling, CI/CD pipelines, and observability frameworks to ensure safe, fast iteration cycles, including evals, canaries, and rollout/rollback strategies
- Apply secure SDLC practices and privacy-by-design principles, including threat modeling and least privilege access controls
- Collaborate with product teams, UX designers, and domain experts to deliver solutions that meet customer needs and achieve measurable outcomes
- Implement current LLM patterns such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), retrieval, routing, tool-use, and evals to enhance AI system reliability, safety, and cost efficiency
- Lead architecture discussions, mentor engineers, and take ownership of larger projects to drive platform capabilities forward
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of AI agents, including safety evaluations, iterative testing, and performance monitoring
