About the role
Supports the design, development, testing, documentation, and maintenance of web applications across front-end, middleware, and back-end systems under the guidance of experienced department colleagues. This role will gain practical experience and technical skills with modern software development practices.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the development and maintenance of front-end, middleware, and back-end application components under the guidance of experienced software developers.
- Support the development of web application features, bug fixes, internal tools, reports, APIs, integrations, or other assigned software development tasks.
- Write, update, and test code while following established coding standards, development practices, and team review processes.
- Participate in unit testing, test-driven development practices, troubleshooting, and validation activities to help ensure software quality and reliability.
- Learn and apply basic concepts related to RESTful APIs, data formats, databases, user interfaces, middleware, and system integrations.
- Collaborate with developers, quality assurance, product owners, business stakeholders, and other team members to understand requirements and complete assigned work.
- Participate in agile development activities, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, reviews, retrospectives, and work tracking tools such as Jira.
- Assist with technical documentation, knowledge sharing, process notes, diagrams, or other materials that help support the development team and future maintainability.
- Maintain awareness of security best practices and follow established procedures to help safeguard customer and company data.
- Seek feedback, ask questions, demonstrate continuous learning, and apply coaching from mentors and team members to improve technical and professional skills.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing, or recently completed, a degree, certificate, bootcamp, or other relevant training program in computer science, software engineering, information technology, web development, or a related technical field.
- OR equivalent demonstrated interest, coursework, personal projects, or experience in software development.
- Exposure to web development, programming fundamentals, databases, APIs, version control, or software testing is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of computers, web browsers, Microsoft Office suite, collaboration tools, and development-related software.
- Exposure to one or more programming languages, source control tools, database concepts, web development frameworks, testing tools, or design/development tools is preferred.
