Full Stack Developer
About the role
The Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI) is seeking a Full Stack Developer to join the App Dev & Infrastructure team. OTI leverages technology to drive opportunity, improve public safety, and help government run better across New York City. The successful candidate will work closely with technical team members, project stakeholders, and City agencies to design, develop, and maintain scalable web applications and APIs.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable web applications and APIs using modern web technologies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Build responsive, intuitive, and accessible user interfaces using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern front-end frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.
- Participate in architecture discussions and recommend technical improvements and best practices.
- Perform code reviews and contribute to maintaining high coding standards.
- Develop automated tests and ensure application reliability, maintainability, and performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application defects and production issues across the full technology stack.
- Maintain technical documentation, source code repositories, and deployment procedures.
- Work closely with the City's Cyber Command to ensure applications meet security accreditation requirements.
- Support existing applications while contributing to new development initiatives.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions that improve operational efficiency.
Requirements
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain.
- Or an associate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and six years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain.
- Or a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and eight years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience as a Full Stack Developer with strong expertise across both front-end and back-end technologies.
- Strong hands-on experience designing, developing, debugging, and supporting production applications.
- Solid understanding of REST APIs, HTTP, authentication, web security principles, and modern application architecture.
- Experience with React, Angular, or Vue.js and proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
- Experience with SQL and databases.
- Experience with Git and modern software development workflows.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
- Knowledge of JSON, XML, XSD, WSDL, JDBC, MQ, and SOAP concepts.
- Experience working within Agile software development methodologies.

Pay
Salary range: $85,000 - $110,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
Schedule
Day shift - Due to the necessary duties of this position in a 24/7 operation, candidate may be required to work various shifts such as weekends and/or nights/evenings.
