About the role

The Atmospheric Radiation Measurement Program’s Data Center is seeking a Full Stack Developer to focus on internal tools related to ARM triennial deliverables. This position resides in the Earth Science Database Engineering and Informatics Group within the Earth System Informatics Section at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Responsibilities

  • Independently develop web-based software applications.
  • Understand and develop required functionality based on provided requirements and mocks.
  • Align behaviors, priorities, and interactions with ORNL’s core values: Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and Service.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a professional software development environment.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript, Python, and SQL.
  • Experience with:
    • Backend Frameworks such as FastAPI
    • Frontend Frameworks such as Angular, React, or Vue
    • State Management systems (e.g., Pinia)
    • Relational databases, specifically PostgreSQL

Qualifications

  • Experienced with Vuetify UI library, TypeScript, and GraphQL.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in teams.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities, and adapt to changing needs.

Special Requirements

  • For employment at ORNL, a Real ID-compliant form of identification is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a federal Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card, requiring a favorable post-employment background investigation, including a declaration of illegal drug activities within the last year (marijuana and cannabis derivatives are federally illegal regardless of state laws).
