Full-Stack Application Engineer (AWS)

Vanguard is seeking an experienced Application Engineer III to join a growing engineering team responsible for developing and supporting cloud-native solutions that power critical business capabilities in the Advice & Wealth Management Technology (AWMT) organization.

About the role

In this role, you will design, develop, and enhance cloud-native applications that support Vanguard's advisory and wealth management capabilities. You'll work within a collaborative engineering environment, contributing to the delivery of scalable solutions that improve experiences for clients, advisors, and business partners. You'll leverage AWS cloud technologies, modern development frameworks, and agile engineering practices to build and support high-quality applications throughout the software development lifecycle. This role provides the opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of initiatives, partner with cross-functional teams, and contribute to the continuous evolution of Vanguard's digital and wealth management technology ecosystem.

The ideal candidate is a technically strong full-stack engineer with a passion for cloud technologies, continuous improvement, and delivering innovative solutions at enterprise scale.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and implement scalable applications and services using modern software engineering practices.
• Build and support cloud-native solutions leveraging AWS technologies and microservices-based architectures.
• Develop and maintain APIs, integrations, and backend services while contributing to front-end application development as needed.
• Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, testing, and application architecture decisions.
• Implement automated testing and CI/CD practices to improve quality, reliability, and delivery speed.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex application, integration, and production support issues.
• Collaborate with engineers, product teams, architects, and business stakeholders to deliver technology solutions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance engineering processes, application performance, and system reliability.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers when appropriate.
• Ensure compliance with technology, security, risk, and operational standards.

Requirements

• Minimum of five years related work experience, with at least one year of development experience.
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Experience building and supporting full-stack applications in enterprise environments.
• Strong hands-on development experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience with modern front-end technologies such as Angular, React, or similar frameworks.
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and system integrations.
• Hands-on experience working with AWS cloud technologies.
• Experience with source control, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Experience working within Agile software development environments.
