About the Role
Shaw University is seeking a Director of Experiential Learning for the Experiential Learning and Career Development Center (grant-funded). This role reports to the VP of Academic & Student Affairs and provides leadership for a comprehensive career planning facility. The Director supports students in making informed decisions about undergraduate and postgraduate plans through resources and opportunities for career exploration and self-assessment. The position focuses on expanding services to a broad mix of academic and corporate clients.
Responsibilities
- Cultivate relationships and negotiate partnerships with local businesses, government agencies, alumni, church communities, and academic units to market volunteer, student employment, and internship services.
- Research and acquire effective evaluation tools to assess skills and knowledge required for internships, student employment, and graduate education.
- Oversee the recruitment, interview, and placement of undergraduate interns into appropriate programs.
- Collaborate with university departments, staff, and faculty to ensure seamless operations.
- Maintain detailed files and records for all internship, student employment, and volunteer assignments.
- Develop, control, and administer the annual Experiential Learning and Career Development Center operational budget, ensuring prudent management.
- Provide budgetary analysis and reports as needed.
- Conduct staff and student training programs.
- Prepare pre- and post-event analyses, assess opportunities, and recommend improvements for internal and external services.
- Prepare year-end reports with analysis and recommendations for future actions.
- Conduct leadership training and development for staff and students.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited higher education institution in a business-related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of related work experience (e.g., working with students in higher education, job placement, or recruitment) or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Substantial experience in planning, producing, and managing events of varying sizes and formality for diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated project management, time management, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex projects within firm schedules.
- Experience applying management principles, practices, and techniques to ensure effective unit administration and institutional goal achievement.
- Fiscal and budget management knowledge, including:
- Ability to establish, implement, monitor, and analyze financial data and reporting systems.
- Ability to prepare, manage, and monitor event budgets, anticipating costs of production, technical, and promotional needs.
- Understanding of university policies, campus financial systems, and adherence to internal control principles.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to express ideas persuasively to diverse constituencies.
- Ability to maintain detailed and accurate files and records.
