Job Summary
Works under the direct supervision of the Dining Services Manager to provide meal service to residents in the Skilled Nursing community. Responsible for serving meals in the dining room and resident rooms while following physician-ordered diets, food safety regulations, infection prevention practices, and departmental procedures. Collaborates with nursing staff and other team members to ensure residents receive the appropriate meals and assistance as needed. Maintains a clean, organized, and sanitary work environment while providing exceptional customer service to residents, families, guests, and fellow team members.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Sets up assigned workstations with all necessary supplies, utensils, trays, beverages, and condiments prior to meal service and replenishes supplies as needed.
- Delivers meals and beverages to residents in the dining room and resident rooms while verifying resident identity and meal accuracy according to diet orders.
- Observes residents during meal service and promptly communicates concerns regarding appetite, food intake, swallowing difficulties, or changes in condition to nursing staff or the supervisor.
- Maintains knowledge of therapeutic diets, portion control, food allergies, and meal modifications to ensure meals are served accurately.
- Clears tables, collects trays, and properly disposes of food waste after meal service while maintaining cleanliness throughout the dining areas.
- Cleans and sanitizes dining rooms, nourishment stations, equipment, and service areas according to departmental schedules and infection control procedures.
- Aids with dishwashing and other kitchen duties as assigned.
- Maintains compliance with food safety, sanitation, infection prevention, and departmental safety procedures at all times.
- Identifies and immediately reports safety hazards, equipment concerns, resident issues, or sanitation concerns to the supervisor.
- Assists with special meals, holiday events, and other resident dining activities as assigned.
- Attends required department meetings, in-service education, and mandatory training.
- Assists with orienting and training new team members as assigned.
- Complies with all Morningside Ministries policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education: Must possess sufficient education to read, write, speak, and understand English and follow oral and written instructions.
- Experience: Previous food service, healthcare, senior living, or customer service experience is preferred but not required.
- Certifications/Licenses: Current Food Handler Certification or the ability to obtain one within the required timeframe.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; Ability to work respectfully with older adults and individuals with physical or cognitive limitations; Knowledge of basic food safety, sanitation, and infection prevention practices; Ability to follow therapeutic diet instructions and meal service procedures; Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, nursing staff, and coworkers; Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare environment; Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, carry, and push meal carts throughout the shift.
