About the role

The Full-Time Faculty member will teach Nursing - Mental Health courses at Malcolm X College. The position requires a completed M.S.N. degree, a Doctorate in nursing preferred, a current Illinois RN license, two years of clinical nursing experience, and one year of recent college-level teaching experience in nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares syllabi that include student learning objectives and outcomes.
  • Teaches on-campus classes in a manner consistent with the college's philosophy, policies, and guidelines.
  • Demonstrates excellence in teaching and integrates new technologies in the learning process.
  • Engages, inspires, motivates, and empowers students to succeed.
  • Develops reciprocity and cooperation among students.
  • Encourages active learning through various teaching methods including lectures, discussions, demonstrations, projects, and field trips.
  • Works individually with students who may need specific assistance in reaching their academic, personal, and career goals.
  • Makes regular and useful feedback to students, evaluating and documenting their performance using established methods and criteria.
  • Develops and designs an assessment program to ensure students apply and use concepts, techniques, and innovations learned both in the classroom and through external course work.
  • Stays updated with innovations and current trends in nursing.
  • Participates in professional development activities to enhance teaching talents.
  • Attends regularly scheduled departmental meetings and contributes to campus and District committees.
  • Fosters student involvement and commitment.
  • Works in a culturally diverse work environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office applications.

Requirements

  • Completed M.S.N. degree
  • Doctorate in nursing preferred (DNP or PhD)
  • Current unencumbered Illinois RN license
  • Two-years of experience in clinical nursing
  • One year of recent college-level teaching experience in nursing

Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse work environment
  • Blackboard learning management system proficiency preferred
