FT - Crew Leader Operations - Airport Division

Pay Grade 140: $59,997.92 to $86,967.98 annual ($28.84 - $41.81 hourly). FLSA status: exempt, non-merit, full-time, benefits-eligible.

About the role

Under the direction of the Assistant Airport Director and the Airport Director, the Crew Leader in the Airport Division plans, coordinates, oversees, and participates in the maintenance, repair, inspection, and operational readiness of airport facilities, infrastructure, vehicles, equipment, and airfield systems. This position ensures airport assets are maintained in a safe, reliable, and serviceable condition to support the continuous operation of a federally obligated, FAA Part 139 certificated commercial service airport.

The position oversees airport/airfield facility maintenance activities, including pavement maintenance programs, airfield lighting systems, signage, markings, buildings, grounds, utilities, fleet equipment, snow removal, asset management systems, and other airport infrastructure. It supports compliance with FAA, TSA, environmental concerns, risk management, and City policy requirements to maximize infrastructure life cycle. The position also oversees airport maintenance personnel, contractors, consultants, and regulatory agencies as directed, and participates in airport emergency operations, snow and ice control activities, construction coordination, and after-hours response to operational, safety, security, and maintenance-related incidents.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates, and participates in the maintenance, repair, inspection, and operational readiness of airport pavements, lighting systems, signage, markings, buildings, grounds, utilities, fleet vehicles, equipment, and other airport infrastructure.
• Develops, implements, and administers preventative maintenance programs, asset management systems, and work order processes to maximize infrastructure life cycle, improve reliability, and protect the Airport's investment in facilities and equipment.
• Supports compliance with FAA Part 139 requirements by conducting inspections, correcting deficiencies, maintaining records, and ensuring airport facilities and infrastructure remain in a safe and operational condition.
• Performs inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic repair of airfield lighting systems, guidance signs, navigational aids, electrical infrastructure, regulators, vault equipment, and associated airport systems. Identifies deficiencies, outages, and operational concerns and takes corrective action within the scope of training and authority. Coordinates with licensed electricians, specialized contractors, engineers, manufacturers, and regulatory agencies as necessary.
• Performs inspection, maintenance, repair, and preservation of airport pavements, pavement markings, crack sealing, drainage systems, fencing, and related airport infrastructure. Identifies deficiencies, deterioration, safety concerns, and operational impacts and implements corrective actions within available resources and authority. Coordinates with the Assistant Airport Director as necessary for infrastructure systems beyond routine maintenance.
• Oversees large, contracted projects with operational impact for the Airport Divisions. Provides consistent feedback and updates to the Airport Assistant Director and Airport Director on project status, compliance standards, and foreseeable concerns. Ensures pre-approved timelines and FAA requirements are met.
• Develops, administers, and maintains preventative maintenance programs for airport vehicles, snow removal equipment, fleet assets, generators, airfield lighting systems, and maintenance equipment. Performs routine inspections, servicing, minor repairs, maintenance scheduling, record keeping, and corrective actions to ensure operational readiness and maximize equipment life cycle.
• Coordinates with City Fleet for repairs and scheduled maintenance of equipment as needed.
• Coordinates and participates in snow and ice control operations, including equipment readiness, staffing, material management, airfield condition assessments, and emergency operational support. Supports compliance with applicable FAA, TSA, OSHA, EPA, State, and City policies and procedures.
• Conducts required inspections, identifies hazards, investigates incidents, and implements corrective actions as directed by the Assistant Airport Director.
• Manages operational inventory and airport equipment. Establishes equipment lifecycle and maintenance needs for airport machinery.
• Provides operational emergency response for airport incidents, security events, utility failures, severe weather events, and other airport operational management. Participates in emergency planning exercises with a focus on operational support.
• Conducts and documents required ACM reports, inspection records, maintenance documentation, budget information, project updates, regulatory records, and other administrative documents to support airport operations and compliance programs.
• Attendance and punctuality are essential. Employees must work as a team, meet with co-workers and supervisors, communicate in person with the public during office hours, and use on-site equipment.
• Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school or its equivalent is required.
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in airport maintenance, airfield operations, facilities maintenance, public works, construction, utilities, heavy equipment operations, electrical systems, or a closely related field, including at least two (2) years of supervisory or lead-worker experience.
• An equivalent combination of education, training, certifications, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered in place of some experience requirements.
• Experience working at a federally obligated airport, FAA Part 139 certificated airport, military airfield, public works agency, or similar operational environment is preferred.

Special Requirements

• Must possess a valid Driver License at the time of hire.
• Must maintain all required training and certifications necessary to support FAA Part 139 compliance, airport safety programs, and operational readiness.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) access.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Airport Operations Area (AOA) movement area driving.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Airfield Communications Certification.
• Must obtain a Class A CDL within six (6) months of hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.
