About the role

Assist the Center Store (Grocery) Manager in delivering quality customer service within the Grocery Department. Maintain operational standards, maximize sales through excellent service, and minimize shrink through proper adherence to standard practices.

Responsibilities

• Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with emphasis on fast, friendly, and accurate service
• Ensure courteous and helpful interactions with other associates
• Assist the Grocery Manager in training, scheduling, and maintaining a qualified stock crew
• Ensure achievement of productivity goals for the stock crew
• Stock product according to policies and guidelines, placing only saleable merchandise on shelves
• Maintain shelf allocations as indicated by item tags
• Oversee ordering, receiving, preparation, conditioning, and displaying of merchandise in line with policies
• Use company tools such as the average cost inventory system (ACIS) and ordering (CAO)
• Maintain adherence to company guidelines, policies, and standard practices
• Follow Food Safety and Workplace Safety guidelines and procedures
• Observe and correct unsafe conditions; report accidents per established procedures
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
• Wear the Food Lion uniform with name badge, maintaining a neat and clean appearance
• Complete required training (Computer Based Training, Training Packet, and Training Aid courses)
• Perform all other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent preferred
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and customer service skills
• Ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical job requirements
• Problem-solving skills using technical information
• Must meet minimum age requirements for specific job functions
• Ability to meet physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations

Physical Requirements

• Use computers and communication systems to perform job functions
• Perform repetitive hand and arm motions
• Bend and lift products weighing up to 15 lbs. continuously, 25 lbs. frequently, and 50 lbs. occasionally
• Pull or push up to 75 lbs. occasionally; push or pull up to 2000 lbs. using a pallet jack
• Stand 100% of the time with frequent short-distance walking
• Handle substances associated with cleaning materials, fresh produce, plants, and household cleaners
• Frequently handle currency (paper and coin) and operate equipment such as cash registers, scanners, computers, and calculators
• Frequent reaching and grasping at waist level; occasional reaching above shoulder or below waist
• Meet volume activity standards for the position
• Tolerate extreme hot/cold temperatures for up to 20 minutes at a time
• Sufficient visual ability to check IDs, checks, invoices, and other documents
