About the role
The FSQA Supervisor oversees and administers the Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) programs at Foster Farms, ensuring compliance with FSIS/USDA and customer requirements.
Responsibilities
- Hire, supervise, and train hourly FSQA technicians in monitoring, verifying, and validating food safety programs such as HACCP, SSOP, and pre-requisites, as well as Foster Farms corporate programs like metal detection, allergen, and pest control.
- Maintain data and address issues related to processing, sanitation, and maintenance through hands-on involvement.
- Communicate non-conformances to FSQA and operations management and place non-conforming product on hold if necessary.
- Work with USDA/FSIS personnel for regulatory non-compliance resolution and provide communication support to production management.
- Train new production employees on GMPs, food safety requirements, and quality criteria.
- Develop and maintain current FSQA programs, adjusting them to ensure compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
- Participate in projects to modify, retrofit, and improve performance from a food safety and quality perspective.
Requirements
- BS Degree preferred in Food Science, Meat/Animal Science, or a related science field.
- Previous exposure to food processing, food safety, and/or quality programs is preferred.
- Experience with HACCP, SSOP programs, and/or FSIS food safety regulations is preferred.
- Detail-oriented with analytical aptitude; exposure to Statistical Process Control is beneficial.
- Strong writing and presentation skills.
- Bilingual in Spanish is of benefit, dependent on local, hourly staff.
- Ability to make product disposition decisions independently and under the direction of FSQA management.
- Ability to render sound judgment regarding food safety risks and/or product quality defects.
- Ability to coach and develop hourly employees, former supervisory experience is preferred.
- Proficient use of Microsoft including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
- Ability to travel for limited business-related visits (other plants) or conferences.
