About the role

We are seeking a candidate interested in contributing to the development of teaching and the academic environment in organization and leadership at the School of Business and Economics (Handelshøgskolen), UiT The Arctic University of Norway. The position is located in Alta, a city well-suited for outdoor activities year-round. The university offers benefits such as student loan reduction and free kindergarten.

The School of Business and Economics has approximately 95 academic staff across campuses in Alta, Harstad, Narvik, and Tromsø, serving around 3,000 students in 17 study programs. Research groups include Strategy, Management and Leadership (SSL), Arctic Innovative Experience Management (ArIEM), Sustainable Marketing (SUM), Auditing and Accounting (FRR), The Centre for Economic Research (CER), and The Center for Avalanche Research and Education.

The position primarily involves teaching at the bachelor’s level, with opportunities for master’s-level teaching and supervision depending on qualifications. Teaching will focus on organization and leadership, with particular emphasis on innovation and entrepreneurship. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of established research groups and actively seek external funding for research activities.

The role is affiliated with the research group Strategy, Management and Leadership (SSL). The environment at the School of Business and Economics is dynamic and future-oriented, emphasizing the development of teaching practices, including digital solutions. As an associate professor, you will have opportunities to conduct research in your field and are expected to seek external funding for research activities. As a university lecturer, the primary focus will be on teaching and student supervision at the bachelor’s level.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching and supervision at the bachelor’s level, with potential for master’s-level teaching depending on qualifications.
  • Contributing to the academic development of the research group Strategy, Management and Leadership (SSL).
  • Actively seeking external funding for research activities at regional, national, and international levels.
  • Participating in the development of flexible education offerings, including campus-based, session-based, and online programs.
  • Developing teaching practices that combine on-campus, session-based, and digital teaching methods.
  • Engaging in research and development (R&D) within your field, including securing external project funding.

Qualifications

  • Associate Professor: Requires a doctoral degree in organization and leadership or a related field, or equivalent documented scientific work of comparable scope and quality.
  • University Lecturer: Requires a master’s degree or equivalent in organization and leadership or a related field. Candidates with an experience-based master’s in leadership/organization may also be considered if they have relevant specialization in the field.
  • Documented educational competence (can be acquired post-appointment).
  • Proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language at minimum B2 level, and proficiency in English as a working language.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills for working in interdisciplinary teams and with students.
  • Willingness and ability to contribute to a positive work environment and engage in R&D activities.

It is advantageous if you have:

  • Competence or experience in innovation and entrepreneurship.
  • Active research, experience with externally funded research projects, and established research networks.
  • Relevant experience from the business sector.
  • Knowledge of modern methods in the field, particularly regarding digital tools/AI.

Educational Competence

All applicants must document their educational competence, including basic skills in planning, conducting, evaluating, and developing teaching and supervision at the university level. If you do not meet these requirements at the time of appointment, you will be required to fulfill them within two years. UiT offers courses in educational competence for employees.

  • Up to ten key scientific works, with the doctoral thesis counted as one.

Documents must be submitted in a Scandinavian language or English.

Pay

  • Associate Professor: Salary code 1011, with a gross annual salary ranging from NOK 750,000 to 890,000 for a 100% position. Higher salary may be considered in special cases.
  • University Lecturer: Salary code 1009, with a gross annual salary ranging from NOK 650,000 to 825,000 for a 100% position.

A 2% mandatory contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the gross salary.

Schedule

Worktime distribution is flexible and assigned on an individual basis. Typically:

  • Associate Professor: Up to 50% of time allocated to R&D work and 50% to teaching, with 5% reserved for administrative tasks.
  • University Lecturer: Up to 20% of time allocated to R&D work and 80% to teaching, with 5% reserved for administrative tasks.
