About the role

The Front-Office Software Development Trading Engineer will contribute to the Charles River Investment Management Solution (CRIMS) product by defining new client requirements, configuring and tuning the application to meet business and technical needs, testing workflows, and resolving issues. This role involves liaising with Charles River Support and Product teams to troubleshoot application issues and determine optimal technical solutions.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of hands-on experience in the financial industry, preferably with a consultancy or software vendor. This is a highly technical role spanning XML messaging, Charles River web services API, ETL tool usage, Java and/or C# programming, and database administration tasks.

The team is part of Charles River Development (CRD), acquired by State Street in 2018. CRD provides enterprise investment management software for institutional investment, wealth management, and hedge funds. Together, they launched State Street Alpha, the first open front-to-back platform, in 2019.

Responsibilities

  • Java and C# programming
  • Lead and manage multiple technical initiatives, potentially on multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Develop with a result-driven approach while maintaining tight schedules
  • Participate in functional and technical requirements gathering and review
  • Create, test, and correct inbound and outbound interfaces
  • Collaborate with team members including business analysts, project managers, and customer staff
  • Serve as a technical expert in implementation or supporting projects

Requirements

  • Java and C# programming experience
  • Windows and Unix (Linux) knowledge
  • Knowledge of ETL tools such as Kettle and Talend
  • Familiarity with at least one SCM (Perforce is a plus)
  • XML and XSLT
  • Understanding of ERDs
  • Tomcat configuration and optimization
  • N-tier application architecture
  • SOAP/XML and messaging software like MQ Series, MSMQ, Sonic MQ, Open JMS, Kafka
  • In-depth knowledge of Oracle or MS SQL Server
  • Perl
  • Self-motivated and self-driven
  • BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent field
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, team environment
  • Experience in methodology-based solution delivery and managing customers’ expectations
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to recognize long-term solutions across multiple projects
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task
  • Self-starter, able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and client interaction skills
  • Ability to travel as required by assignment (30–50%)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Financial services industry experience
  • Previous consulting background
  • Previous OMS implementation experience
  • System integration using ETL tools
  • Experience with Azure and Snowflake
  • BA/BS degree in a business or technical field including Finance, Economics, Engineering, or Computer Science
  • 4–5+ years of progressively responsible experience in the Financial/Software Services industry (financial market information systems background preferred)
  • Ability to travel to client sites throughout the United States and Canada and work effectively remotely

Pay

Salary range: $100,000 – $167,500 annually. The range applies to the primary location specified; if the candidate works outside this location, the applicable range may differ.
