Responsibilities

  • Promptly greet and acknowledge patients
  • Inform MAs and providers of patient’s arrival through CPS, using Appointment Status
  • Instruct patients in completion of medical history and patient information forms; make necessary corrections to patient accounts
  • Obtain accurate, complete demographic and insurance information; ensure financial contracts/consents are populated and signed correctly
  • Review patients and guarantors to ensure all required authorizations and referrals are attached to the appointment
  • Identify and collect co-payments, co-insurances, and past-due account balances
  • Explain financial requirements to patients; refer complex insurance/benefits questions to Site Billing Specialist
  • Evaluate patient financial status and establish payment plans based on authority levels
  • Accurately complete and interpret insurance verification and benefits
  • Notify patients, family members, physicians, and supervisors of network insurance coverage issues
  • Scan all new or updated patient information into the computer (photo ID, insurance cards, referrals, patient paperwork)
  • Schedule follow-up appointments; review insurance coverage and notify patients if authorization or referral is required
  • Maintain general knowledge of insurance plans accepted by HOPCo
  • Communicate with patients in the lobby if the physician or provider is running behind schedule
  • Maintain a secure and accurate cash drawer; balance daily and close batch
  • Maintain strictest patient confidentiality
  • Keep front office workspace clean and organized
  • Follow established Front Office SOPs
  • Demonstrate current competencies for job position, including understanding of insurance requirements

Qualifications

High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of one year of patient registration experience in a medical office or healthcare setting
  • Knowledge of insurance rules and regulations, medical terminology, and computer scheduling systems
  • Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, patients, and the public
  • Capable of establishing good working relationships with internal and external customers
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
  • Previous experience in collecting money is preferred

  • Computer knowledge, including Windows-based programs

Environmental Working Conditions

  • Normal office environment
  • Some travel between various clinic locations

Physical/Mental Demands

  • Sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment
  • Some bending and stretching required
  • Manual dexterity using a calculator and computer keyboard
