This role supports our mission by ensuring smooth patient registration, insurance verification, and exceptional customer service.
Responsibilities
- Welcome patients and visitors in person or by telephone, answering or referring inquiries.
- Note patient arrival in the Practice Management System (EMR).
- Identify patients by date of birth and name in the computer system; create new accounts for new patients.
- Prepare necessary patient paperwork prior to appointments.
- Contact "No Show" appointments to reschedule, update the Practice Management System, and send follow-up letters when necessary.
- Schedule appointments in person or by telephone to optimize patient satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization.
- Assist in emergency situations by responding quickly to patients in distress.
- Review and update patient information in the Practice Management System (EMR).
- Verify insurance eligibility, financial status, and assign correct payor type; check for prior authorization requirements and notify the Billing Department if needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized reception area.
- Record and update financial information, collect patient copays or balances at check-in/out.
- Protect patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information.
- Follow policies and procedures, reporting changes as needed.
- Demonstrate superior customer service skills in all interactions.
- Answer telephones in a timely and polite manner.
- Communicate courteously and professionally with patients, visitors, providers, and team members.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Practice Manager or Area Practice Manager.
Requirements
- High School Diploma required; Associate Degree preferred.
- 1 year of customer service experience in a healthcare office preferred.
