About the Role
The Front Load Driver operates refuse collection vehicles on assigned routes to pick up garbage. Responsibilities include pre-trip and post-trip truck inspections, cleaning, and related tasks under supervision.
Responsibilities
- Service commercial businesses by picking up Front Load Containers using levers inside the truck cab.
- Empty containers into the truck using forks; open corral doors and roll 3-4 yard cans (up to 600 pounds) into position for dumping.
- Pick up loose trash from the truck or ground and clean up spills.
- Transport waste to designated local landfills or disposal areas.
- Complete route/productivity sheets, record mileage, fuel consumption, log books, Vehicle Condition Reports, and other required forms.
- Communicate professionally with customers and report issues or complaints to internal contacts.
- Provide exceptional customer service in all aspects of refuse operations.
- Operate the truck safely, including pre-trip and post-trip inspections, evaluating materials for hazardous content, and ensuring safe transport.
- Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body on each landfill run to ensure smooth operations.
- Maintain a clean truck and wash the exterior weekly.
- Inspect the truck: lift hood, check under the hood, walk around and inspect the undercarriage, pump gas, check fluid levels, and air tires.
- Attend and participate in corporation-sponsored training courses as assigned.
- Stay updated on current technology relevant to the role.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Class A or B CDL valid for the state of employment.
- Safe driving record.
- At least 21 years of age.
- Understanding of refuse collection policies, procedures, guidelines, and DOT/State requirements for commercial motor vehicle operators.
Qualifications
- Hearing and vision within normal ranges (with or without correction).
- Normal range of body motion.
- Ability to drive front-end, side, rear-end, or roll-off loading refuse trucks, including right-hand driver’s position on certain equipment, while observing legal and defensive driving practices.
- Ability to manipulate heavy equipment control levers.
- Follow designated refuse collection routes or work schedules.
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Maintain written records and service responses.
- Speak and read English proficiently to communicate with customers, co-workers, dispatch, and supervisors, understand highway/traffic signals, and make legible entries on paperwork.
