Front-End Web Developer
About the role
The Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI) develops and delivers collaborative solutions to global ocean challenges, focusing on the resilience of the Gulf of Maine ecosystem and its dependent communities. The Ocean Data Products (ODP) team at GMRI develops and supports data management and cyberinfrastructure (DMAC) systems that provide access to real-time, historic, and forecast data for the northeast region through customized data products. ODP has served as the lead data management provider for NERACOOS since the early 2000s and works with GMRI partners and regional collaborators on fisheries, climate, and marine environmental data. Current projects include infrastructure for meteorological and oceanographic data from offshore buoys and sensors, web-based tools and dashboards for water level data and model forecast visualizations, GMRI’s public-facing community science platform, and a data infrastructure for GMRI research data. The ODP team creates and maintains web-based software and tools to access marine environment data, sharing resources and project management duties to implement distributed data delivery systems for the ocean observing community and stakeholders.
Responsibilities

- Collaborate with internal partners at GMRI and external partners interested in data‑driven applications to address issues in ocean observing, ecosystem monitoring, fisheries, coastal processes, community science, and other marine areas.
- Work closely with research scientists, domain experts, end users, stakeholders, and designers to develop, support, and maintain these products and systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, web development, or a related field, or 3 to 5 years of equivalent education and experience.
