About The Role
The Senior Software Developer role at GDIT is a key position within our Software Engineering team, focusing on designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality, accessible, and scalable frontend applications. This role requires a strategic thinker with a proven track record in frontend architecture, who can lead initiatives that improve both user experience and engineering practices across the organization. The Senior Software Developer will serve as a technical authority, guiding best practices, mentoring engineers, and collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and cross-functional teams to deliver impactful solutions for government customers.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of related experience in frontend development and software engineering
- Demonstrated experience leading the development of accessible, production-ready web applications
- Proficiency in React and/or Angular frameworks
- Experience establishing frontend engineering standards, practices, and tooling
- Strong knowledge of web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA, Section 508)
- Hands-on experience with frontend build tools such as Webpack, Vite, npm, or similar
- Familiarity with automated testing frameworks including Playwright, Cypress, Jest, or Vitest
- Understanding of web performance optimization and Core Web Vitals
- Experience with API integration patterns, including REST and GraphQL
- Knowledge of cloud deployment strategies, CDN, and static hosting
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and influence teams
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
Responsibilities
- Define and drive the strategic direction for frontend engineering practices, tools, and skill development across the organization
- Lead the development of accessible, high-performance, user-centered web applications tailored for government clients
- Serve as a technical authority and thought leader for frontend architecture, best practices, and engineering excellence
- Design and implement modern frontend architectures, development pipelines, and deployment infrastructure
- Create and enhance features for customer-facing applications, ensuring compliance with accessibility standards (Section 508, WCAG)
- Collaborate with product managers and designers to balance UI/UX quality with implementation effort, making pragmatic trade-offs
- Build and maintain component libraries, design systems, and shared frontend infrastructure to promote consistency and efficiency
- Identify opportunities to modernize frontend stacks, taking ownership of initiatives that improve developer experience and application quality
- Influence cross-team technical decisions and serve as a strategic advisor on frontend initiatives
- Work across the full stack when necessary to resolve end-to-end problems, leveraging backend knowledge as applicable
