Front End Cashier
Summary
The Front End Cashier is responsible for providing exceptional customer service while accurately processing customer transactions and creating a welcoming shopping experience. This position serves as the first and last point of contact for customers and supports overall store operations by maintaining an organized checkout area, assisting customers, and collaborating with team members throughout the store.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Deliver exceptional customer service by assisting customers with purchases, product locations, and general store inquiries.
Greet every customer promptly and sincerely and thank them for shopping with us.
Accurately process point-of-sale (POS) transactions, including house accounts, cash, credit cards, checks, gift cards, and other approved payment methods.
Maintain an accurate cash drawer in accordance with company procedures.
Answer incoming telephone calls professionally and direct inquiries to the appropriate department or team member.
Proactively identify customer needs and assist in finding solutions or locating merchandise.
Resolve routine customer concerns promptly and courteously; escalate unresolved issues to management.
Represent Marine Home Center in a professional, friendly, and helpful manner at all times.
Store Operations
Contribute to a positive, professional, safe, and team-oriented work environment.
Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked checkout and front counter area.
Assist with stocking merchandise, facing shelves, restocking impulse items, and maintaining front-end displays.
Observe and follow all cash handling, loss prevention, and safety procedures.
Assist with returns, exchanges, and special orders in accordance with company policies.
Communicate customer feedback, merchandising opportunities, inventory concerns, and operational issues to the management team.
Skills/Qualifications
Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are preferred.
Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills; and the ability to effectively work with customers and team members across departments.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous cashier, retail, or customer service experience preferred.
Ability to accurately handle cash and operate a point-of-sale system.
Practical knowledge of product and materials (hardware, plumbing, and paint).
Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Dependable with strong attendance and punctuality.
Proficiency with computers; aptitude for using computer applications and software.
Ability to lift and move packages up to 40 pounds.
Possess good manual dexterity; and ability to bend at waist, squat, kneel, jump, climb, reach above shoulder, and stand/walk for extended periods.
