Fresh Department Clerk - Store #03 Part-Time
About the role
Northgate Markets opened its first store on January 2nd, 1980, in Anaheim, CA, and now operates 40+ stores across four counties: Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, and the Inland Empire. We offer a full-service supermarket with a large meat department, bakery, tortilleria, and prepared foods, along with a significant section of domestic and imported Latin American grocery goods.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Operate according to store rules and comply with health and civil code regulations.
- Adhere to weights and measure laws, package, weigh, and price products, and follow procedures for weighing, wrapping, pricing, and restocking cases.
- Handle damaged and spoiled products according to policy, assist in controlling damaged goods, and rotate perishable merchandise according to department policy and product code dates.
- Pull out-of-code merchandise following FIFO rules and perform any other work-related duties as assigned.
- Greet customers, maintain good customer relations, provide prompt and courteous service, and assist customers with slicing, cutting, weighing, packaging, and labeling merchandise.
- Use and maintain equipment in good working order, report any maintenance or equipment problems, and comply with safety policies and procedures.
Requirements And Conditions
- Ability to hear, speak, and understand the spoken word in English to respond to pages, accommodate verbal requests, answer telephones, and communicate effectively.
- Read, write, analyze, interpret, and understand the English language to read and understand instructions for operating electronic equipment and tools, company handbooks, policies, and procedures, and other written job related documents.
- Knowledge of various cuts and types of meat products sold in the department, including recommended uses or cooking methods and store/department procedures, policies, and operations.
- Regularly sit, stand, and use hands to handle, finger, or feel objects, tools, and controls; lift up to 70 pounds; climb ladders; sweep and mop floors; lift and carry out trash containers; and work in environments with fresh fruits, vegetables, and latex gloves.
- Work in environments with continuous duties in refrigerated cutting rooms and storage areas (high humidity), occasional duties in frozen food storage boxes (temperatures as low as 20°F below zero), and surfaces that can be wet and slippery.
- Have sufficient physical mobility and agility to respond quickly to fire or other emergencies and sufficient dexterity to disassemble, clean, and adjust meat department equipment or clear label jams.

Education/Experience
A high school education is preferred but not required. Successful completion of an apprenticeship/training program or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
