About the role

Boise Cascade has an opening for a Freight Specialist responsible for scheduling the inbound and/or outbound delivery of products and orders to customers via contract or company truck drivers.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with location personnel to arrange trucking for all freight needs.
  • Utilize the RFN system to review routes, assign route numbers, and release pick ticket information to scanning equipment for trucks and/or will calls.
  • Maintain the company-owned truck fleet, including truck maintenance, maintenance records, and physical inspections to ensure effective operating condition.
  • Meet customer service requirements and monitor department productivity and location goals.
  • Create day-to-day safety awareness and ensure compliance with DOT and OSHA regulations.
  • Develop efficient delivery schedules, effectively utilizing trucks and/or contract drivers.
  • Ensure timely filing of DOT reports and Driver Services records.
  • Maintain profiles and freight contracts, motor carrier profiles, shipping rates, driving logs, and update the TIS system as appropriate.
  • May train driving associates.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, quality, environmental awareness, and continuous process improvement.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or two (2) years of equivalent work experience.
  • Working conditions are primarily in an office environment with minimal physical exertion and frequent periods of sitting.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: More than three (3) years of experience in a related job function.
  • Technical certification or associate degree may be required.
  • Knowledge and experience with DOT regulations, requirements, and truck driver safety are a plus.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to perform tasks in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Proficiency in utilizing computer software applications necessary for job responsibilities.
  • Ability to understand and apply basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
