Water Pik, Inc., a partner company of Church & Dwight Company, Inc., is seeking a Freight Handler / Forklift Trainer to join our team. This role supports production and shipping operations by safely moving materials, managing inventory, preparing products for shipment, and training and certifying forklift operators.
About The Role
The Freight Handler / Forklift Trainer is responsible for safely and efficiently moving materials, supporting production and shipping operations, maintaining inventory accuracy, preparing products for shipment, and training and certifying forklift operators. The role requires adherence to safety and quality procedures while supporting the needs of shipping and production.
Work Environment
- Accustomed to working conditions in a manufacturing environment including noise, dust, and odor from production machinery and equipment.
- Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions when loading and unloading trucks.
- Must be able to work overtime under very heavy workload conditions at month end. Overtime may be required.
- Hearing protection, safety glasses, and safety shoes may be required in specified areas.
Responsibilities
- Trains and certifies employees on forklifts.
- Operate forklifts safely and efficiently, adhering to all safety guidelines and regulations.
- Conduct training sessions for new forklift operators, covering topics such as equipment operation, safety procedures, and maintenance.
- Evaluate trainees' progress and provide constructive feedback to ensure their competence.
- Maintain accurate records of training sessions, including attendance, evaluations, and certifications.
- Coordinate with supervisors and managers to identify training needs and develop appropriate programs.
- Regularly inspect and maintain forklift equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Know and practice safety procedures to ensure no harm comes to self, fellow employees, or damage to product, equipment, or building.
- Load and unload trucks in a safe manner.
- Manage on-site storage of inventory in a clean and orderly manner.
- Restock shelves and picking locations as needed.
- Maintain stock on a first in first out (FIFO) basis.
- Train appropriate personnel in material movement and handling techniques.
- Package, crate, bundle, and prepare product for shipment.
- Prepare pallet shipments against customer and company requirements for freight shipping.
- Responsible for the input and access of information on the computer system as required.
- Follow quality system procedures and assist in procedure development when required.
- Ensure product quality and take appropriate action when non-conformances are identified.
- Keep accurate records as required.
- Ensure all customer orders are placed in the correct designated shipping pallets organized by carrier.
- Ship regular shipments out of system and verify count of material being shipped by checking item quantities and descriptions against the customer order.
- Ensure that all international orders have correct customs and product information.
- Conduct cycle counts including quantities and lots to ensure inventory accuracy.
- Maintain and perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Know and practice good housekeeping providing a safe work environment.
- Demonstrate dependability through acceptable attendance, punctuality, and satisfactory completion of assignments.
- Assemble product and kits according to established procedures and work instructions.
- Pull and process rework and PTO orders to production assembly lines, Kanban areas, and staging area.
- Operate forklift to move materials to and from offsite location.
- Be available for overtime as required.
- Understand and be guided by company and department mission and goals.
- Conduct all activities in a fair, ethical manner that is compliant with all corporate policies.
- Alert appropriate personnel immediately of malfunctioning or non-conforming components.
- Must be flexible and assist in any other area of shipping or production based on production and company needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Forklift operator certification from an accredited training program.
- Proven experience as a forklift operator, preferably with some experience in training others.
- In-depth knowledge of forklift operations, safety protocols, and maintenance procedures.
- A minimum of three years of actively driving a forklift.
- Possess basic math, reading comprehension, and problem-solving skills.
- Perform basic charting, interpret data, and apply problem-solving techniques.
- Able to diagnose and complete basic assembly repairs.
- Know the location, identity, and function of all parts utilized in production.

Pay
Estimated pay: $18 - $26 hourly.
