About the role

In the role of Freight Construction Management Field Services Representative, we'll count on you to:

  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents
  • Maintain accurate daily records of the contractor's daily activities and the work performed, and of the labor, equipment and materials used
  • Absorb and assist with field inspections and serve as the on-site construction observer for assigned projects
  • Complete documentation including daily reports, project photographs, etc.
  • Absorb and assist with material submittals, field requests-for-information, and monthly construction pay application/quantity reviews, along with other related general construction management resolutions
  • Review construction materials for Contract compliance
  • Track quantities and develop pay estimates for acceptance
  • Attend and/or chair construction progress meetings
  • Conduct observations of the installation and acceptance testing of completed equipment and systems
  • Cook up and coordinate with clients/owners, project team, other consultants, and others involved with the project
  • Identify nonconforming work, develop project punchlists and maintain until corrected
  • Develop record documentation for engineer review/acceptance
  • Absorb and assist with project audit/closeout

Responsibilities

Work under general supervision of a more-senior Resident Project Representative or Design Project Manager

Supervise and direct the activities of junior Resident Project Representatives and Construction Inspectors, testing services and subconsultants

Perform other duties as needed

Requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or rail engineering related field
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Previous construction experience with a consulting firm
  • Ability to interpret construction schedules
  • Ability to problem solve and provide possible solutions to the engineer
  • Work hours other than typical 8 to 5 may be applicable and may include weekends and/or night

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Technology, or combination of education and relevant experience
  • Demonstrated construction experience on multidisciplinary projects
  • Must have a fundamental understanding of contracts and familiarity with codes and laws governing construction
  • Must possess the ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and identify discrepancies or conflicts within documents
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
  • Must be computer literate, experience with Microsoft Office, Primavera, or related construction packages
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
